Premenstrual symptoms (PMS) refers to a wide variety of symptoms that generally occur in the week preceding menstruation. Approximately 80% of women suffer from some form of PMS and many turn to muscle relaxants, diuretics, oral contraceptives and pain killers to ease the discomfort. There are thought to be groups of symptoms that generally occur together based on specific hormonal imbalances and lifestyle factors. Some women experience symptoms that come from more than one category.
